Our Water Buffalo originally descend from Asian Buffalo, like those in India and Pakistan. They are called Water Buffalo as in the wild they inhabit swampy wet areas.  Our animals were actually imported from Romania in Eastern Europe where they are still a very important farm animal and are used to pull carts and ploughs.

Their milk is very rich and creamy. It makes beautiful cheese and cream.

They are very tame, friendly and curious creatures , we really enjoy working with them. People often think that they must be difficult to milk as they look so much like wild animals, but in fact they are quieter than some cows. They don't kick when being milked, unlike some cows we know !

Buffalo can live for over 20 years.  Buffalo are pregnant for 10 months whereas cows are only pregnant for 9. Buffalo don’t moo, they grunt ... more like a pig. In some countries, all of the milk people drink comes from Buffalo not cows. Buffalo milk makes great milkshakes as it is very creamy.  Buffalo are important for pulling carts and ploughing fields in some countries.  Buffalo have been used by man for milk, meat and transport for longer than cattle. Buffalo calves will take milk from other females in the herd, not just their mother.
